Pebble Mine

In case anyone hasn't heard the EPA recently come out with this statement,  “Extensive scientific study has given us ample reason to believe that the Pebble Mine would likely have significant and irreversible negative impacts on the Bristol Bay (Alaska) watershed and its abundant salmon fisheries,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy.  Pebble Mine is the proposed gold mine that threatens the largest Sockeye Salmon run in the world, along with the other 4 species of Pacific Salmon.

I rarely talk politics but having spent 7 summers in that neck of the woods many years ago I think sacrificing the last great salmon runs for some gold would leave the world a much less precious place.  Even though I haven't been up there in 23 years just knowing that it is up there makes me feel good, whole.  One day I dream of being able to take my family back there to share with them the magic of that country.

Enjoy some old pictures from the Last Frontier.
